F54, beeping, waste pump running

If you have a HV Series dishwasher or probably any Hisense dishwasher with the fault code F54, I bring help hopefully.

Ours is a HiSense HV693C60UK dishwasher to be specific and never had an issue until now. Turns out it was an incredibly easy fix, all be it a right ball ache to find out exactly what was causing it for us.

Fault code F54 means that water has entered the lower tray / housing and pushed the float up to set off the water sensor. When this happens the waste pump automatically runs to clear any water from inside the washer – you just need to work out why.

TLDR

The pipe that runs up to the top two washer arms was coming off the diverter valve when under pressure, as the water was spraying out everywhere like a fountain, it was going into the shield for the overflow exit, out of the overflow passage and into the tray.

Trying to show the water flow as best as possible in this pic & you can see the clips are not really holding the pipe any more.

(there is normally a cover over the over flow passage, see below pic)

Slightly longer story.

When this first happened I removed the dishwasher, took the lower rear cover off, vacuumed out the water and laid there watching whilst it was on a cycle. There was nothing obvious. I get up and five minutes later, it’s beeping and full up.

Second time I waited longer – water started pouring out of the diverter valve, which seemed odd, as if its leaking, well it would just leak all the time.

I took it out – it was at this point I realised that it was in fact that its an overflow passage that is part of the diverter valve and water was coming out through it.

It didn’t seem to have an issue with draining away water, there was no blockages. The only thing I could see that was a bit off was the ‘air break’ unit (see pics below). It looked a bit clogged up and thought maybe that is causing some sort of issue with drainage or too much water in the machine.

Ended up replacing the air break. Didn’t fix it.

Scratching my head a bit, I run it on a cycle and opened the door quickly to see what was going on inside and lo and behold, it became obvious what was going on.

The pipe that runs up to the top two washer arms was coming off the diverter valve when under pressure, as the water was spraying out everywhere like a fountain, it was going into the shield for the overflow exit, out of the overflow passage and into the tray.

I think the only reason I noticed this was because the bottom tray was not in and therefore really lifting the pipes off from the diverter valve.

Ive only ever had this pipe off once about a year ago. The clips that hold it in place quite are small and perhaps my previous encounter had made them weak and the hot / cold cycles took there toll on them.

Definitely room for bigger better clips, tut tut tut, to designers at Hisense.

The fix

Ideally a new ‘spray tower’ that sits on top of the diverter valve.

All parts available from https://www.hisensespares.co.uk/dishwashers/hv693c60uk%20(739833)/

Official site for HiSense, nice diagrams and reasonable on price. Quick delivery too.
(don’t get ripped off for hose clips and o-rings though, see further info)

Item 3012 – G882358 – £20 (17.05.26)

Or if like me you have already spent a lot of time messing about and buying something you don’t need, 1x screw;

I made a small pilot hole first. Make sure it’s not too long or it will foul the valve moving part.

Just holding in;

After initial fitment of the screw with it all apart, the screw had to come out to put it all back together then, refit the screw.

Further info / pics of taking apart / tips

If you have unfortunately taken your machine apart like me and need new hose clips, Hisense genuine ones are silly priced. They are a single pinch style clip, or stepless ear clamp, very narrow and not really reusable.

I needed item 3046 / part number G883962 – £18.85!!

I found OETIKER branded ones, which various online places had for about a £1 each + postage.

https://www.tom-parker.co.uk/upload/catalogue/P%2011.02.pdf

Part number OET16700052 done the clamp for the pipe connection on the diverter valve and the waste pipe that connects to the air break.

O-rings are also silly priced, if you happen to need one, measure it and find an equivalent on RS Components.

Few pictures and info below which may assist you in taking yours apart (or hopefully not).

Apart from the hose clamps, most bits just clip into place. I did have a bit of agro getting the air break lock ring off – it just wouldn’t move, had to break it off and replace.

Most of it is just making sure it all goes back in the same place, noting wiring routes.

Oh and if you get a F12 fault after you put it back together – turn the water on!
(if not check that the wiring for the water supply solenoid is all in place)
