Impulse buy. Looked alright. Not massively rusty. Needs some love. Broke down in it the first time I went out in it.
This popped up on Facebook and was local so went and had a look. Fairly tidy, I took a liking to it and bought it. Didn’t even drive it as have come to know what to expect with a these.

Picked it up the next weekend and the lad had to jump start it which I thought this is a good start but has been sat around. Handed over some money and drove away in it. Drive belt squealing, gearbox about to jump off the cradle and exhaust bashing into the ream beam – what a great buy!
After realising how slow it is on the M11 compared to modern cars… we got back and I tightened up the drive belt.
Popped out later on in it and drive belt snapped, subsequently attended by the AA who put a cable tie round the belt pulleys (good trick) and followed me back home.
Overall it’s a pretty solid shell and could serve as good base for a bigger engine conversion however fairly intent on just tidying it up and using it here and there. Suppose the Silver Beast is for that kind of fun, feel a bit guilty buying this but its needs so much work (I don’t have the space currently) and I need something to tinker with.
Bet the mrs thinks I’m a right dickhead getting a 2nd project car.
Anyway, initial list of things to do:
- Replace gearbox mounts
- Replace exhaust as has been repaired / welded badly
- Replace all front suspension as creaking away
- Bonnet stay stowed clip replace
- Balance wheels, probably replace tyres
Ongoing things to do
- Find parcel shelf, missing
- Fix door cards coming away from door at window
- Sort out seatbelts not retracting through B Pillar guide
- Find a clock, inop
- Wipe on washers, fix
- Blowers working when ignition off, fix
